For a recluse, he had rediscovered the ability to become stir crazy. Matt Knox had found himself back at the Carnage Arena near a week before the next show was even scheduled. He sat in the cafeteria, sipping on a bottled water and people watching. Some might mistake it as brooding, but that would more than likely simply be based off of him being a skinny guy with near translucent white skin and jet black hair. He fell pretty hard into that "Goth" look without any effort. Whole life in California, never could get a tan.
And so he sat there, sipping and stare through the crowd and off into space, waiting for anything interesting to happen. Hell, if nothing did happen at least it beat Bert and his "Sick fuckin Covid Apocalypse Plague #2 Jam List". How the fuck do the Monkees make anything called a "Jam List?"

Knox might not have even noticed, if he weren't already looking for such things, the young woman who wished to go by the moniker of Jenova. Her silver hair was matted; her workout gear drenched in sweat. She knifed through the crowd at the cafe with the precision of a skilled surgeon who either held a natural disdain for her fellow human beings, or at the very least couldn't be bothered by them.
Her objective was simple. She couldn't keep up the rigorous pace of self-training that she had put herself on if she didn't also maintain her hydration levels and energy. Taking care of herself had to become an extension of this training, despite how she felt about being at the Carnage arena while other people were around.
Jenova took the first cold bottle of water available and found a spot at the wall by the door. She would have left the cafeteria in its entirety if her legs could have carried her back to the ring, but her limbs opted against it. She pressed her back to the wall and squeezed the first few gulps from the bottle through her lips and the next few down over the top of her head. She gasped. The sudden rush of cold fluid was a shock to her system, but one she desperately needed at the time.
A red RC car happened to drive thru the cafeteria as well. It was sort of out of place, seeing that it had an iPad attached to it. Adrienne via Facetime pops up on the screen. After all, Adrienne didn't have the cash to stay in Baltimore for more than one night at a time. How this happened? Just go with it, trust me, your life will be okay.

The gasp, however soft caught his ears. His dark eyes darted to Jenova's form. His face scrunched a moment before recognition flashed over his features. The woman that defeated that giant S&M freak..
He considers his options a moment especially after noticing the glimmer of sweat on her skin. He wondered, had he missed a gym in the arena or had the woman ran here from..wherever?
After another moment of wrestling with his introverted self, he stood. His six and a half foot frame standing above most of the crowd. He leaves the water bottle behind and makes his way to her, paying her a nod as he got within a reasonable distance
"You were at Underground weren't you? Took the giant bondage enthusiast to task?" He inquired in a flat but friendly enough tone. His eyes briefly caught an RC car...christ this place can't stay normal

Had her legs been anything more than the consistency of jelly, she probably would have walked away.
She caught his nod as he approached, taking that there was no ill intention from the tall man striding toward her position. At six-six, he physically towered over her. But it was only a mild discomfort considering there weren't many people in Carnage Wrestling that she didn't look up to. Empty was a massive husk of a man and it didn't seem to matter much. She was indeed the person who was able to take Empty to task, yet that was in a fight between the bells. Having a regular conversation and trusting that things wouldn't go horribly wrong? That was far more terrifying.
She glanced up at 'The Raven' as he spoke, staying attentive for the moment. She then lowered her gaze and shook her head. "If that's what you want to call it... sure." She chuckled. "...and you are?"
With her eyes lowered, she noticed the RC car on the floor by their feet. She rolled her eyes. Training in the arena was clearly a mistake.

Well, her disposition was properly in line with most he had met in his time in the business. He offered a hand when he spoke, keeping the same even tone"Matthew Knox. I was the guy who lost to a flying midget and two rookies"There, a little humor to disarm ought to do the trick. Why was he disarming her though? This wasn't a bar, he wasn't after a companion. Shit, maybe being locked in a hotel room until it was time to fight was getting to him..
"Pleasure to meet you, Miss..?"Might as well get a name. At least he could be familiar with someone, should he ever end up facing this woman in the ring. A lot more comfortable to kick a familiar face than that of a stranger's, for whatever reason.

She looked out to his hand. It was massive. It could probably palm a basketball or crush her entire head. But it was offered in what she could only presume to be kindness. So she returned the gesture, placing her rather scant, dainty hand within the grasp of his.
"Jenova," she replied, taking note on the calloused nature of his hand. She was already analyzing every detail her mind could ascertain about Knox, just as she did with everyone she met on the business. "So, you're new around here huh? Lucky you," she replied with a hint of sarcasm. "What brings a man like you to a mess like this?"
The car ran into chairs as it maneuvered itself to face Knox ... and Jenova? Pretty sure she saw her take out some dork at the last show. The iPad's camera pops back on but its just a empty view of someone's ugly tan couch. Adrienne wasn't in full view as she fidgeted with the camera.

He took the hand gentler than he would most, and gave it a shake. He leaned himself against a wall, staring back at the RC car...it had a..phone on it? And it was face timing someone's grandmother's old couch. Yeah. not a doubt. He'd come out of retirement to wrestle in a circus..He focused back on Jenova as she spoke, paying her a smile and a chuckle.
"New to Carnage, yeah. Not to "The Biz" " He accentuated with air quotes"Guess i'm here...to get right with how I went out before. Redemption, I guess. If you buy the bullshit I been sellin." He eyes her curiously "What about you? Been here long? What're you doin here?"
Conversation felt nice. He couldn't lie. Especially with a new face. Even if it was apparently being monitored by..a car

Knox's reasoning was sound; if not eerily similar. Maggie figured that there were a lot of folks that came to this particular hole-in-the-wall federation throughout the years for a similar reason. Obviously Knox wasn't privy to her returning on practically the same circumstance, after having been taken out herself a while back. Whatever this redemption angle that Knox was talking about, it didn't seem like he bought his own bullshit, himself.
But Jenova nodded along as he spoke. Then he asked about her... reasons.
Maggie shook her head. "Too long... and not long enough," was her way of saying that she could see it both ways. But it wasn't exactly like she was concerned about her own career or even her legacy at this point, since she was basically here under the pretense of worrying about someone elses. "I'm here because this is where I need to be right now, apparently-" she pursed her lips, "-but I don't think that you'd understand."

"Vague. I can dig it. Almost like we're strangers, eh?" He half joked, eyeing the sock puppet eyeing them. He decided not to react quite yet, but drums his fingers on the wall "I mean, we can all say that, can't we? We're where we need to be right now. Be it God, contractual obligations, fate...something always puts us somewhere, right when we need to be there" He waxed philosophically, then snorted and returned his gaze to her "God, I sounded pompous there didn't I?"
He pushed off the wall, rolling a shoulder to work an annoying kink that had developed in it from Underground "But, I can't lie to you any longer miss. I did come over here to ask you something much more particular than the small talk.." He cleared his throat, glancing once more at the sock puppet"You run here, or did they hide a gym somewhere in this hellhole?"
“Silence fools!” Adrienne tries her best to take her meek quiet voice and transform it into something manly and menacing. All the while the puppet flaps open and closed with each word.
“This vestige here represents the great lord, master of the darkest arts, Sah’ta Thor!!!! ... wait am I a lord or a duke? Am I thinking of someone else? This place sure is weird...”
She clears her throat and resumes.
“Stand there and tremble as I bequeath upon you the extent of my dangerous knowledge!”

It became increasingly harder to focus on what Matt was saying when the sock puppet on the Ipad was interrupting. Maggie was already worn out from her workout; she didn't have the patience or the energy to play these games when she was already stretching whatever scant social skill she was pretending to have toward its breaking point.
Finally, she acknowledged the radio-controlled elephant in the room.
"Oh, hi Thor... I didn't recognize you without your hammer." She turned her attention back towards Knox. "And to answer your question: no. I was just out in the ring taking 'bumps'-" she made quotation marks with her fingers to accentuate her ring vet lingo "-and running the ropes. Turns out you can never be too quick around here. Excuse me."
And with that, she pushed herself off of the wall, and turned to leave the cafeteria.
