Mia looks around her in amusement. It wasn’t like she was in MiAtlantis, not by a long shot, but that doesn’t mean she was expecting almost an exact replica in Zephyr’s head. Green mists replaced MiAtlantis’ cool hues as Mia sits up from where she landed when she made her journey through whatever space and landed right outside a sphere that held the consciousness of Zephyr Quinn. A small shack sits and waits for Mia, a small blinking candle light beckoning.
A feeling unlike any other overcomes Mia as she stands, like she was about to walk into a final chapter before a reader was left suspended in a state of wanting to know what happened next. She sighs and takes out her beloved ecig, grateful that her powers extended enough to get a working THC vaporizer for the journey. She takes a puff and snaps her fingers, Cheshire, Loki, and Amelia appearing beside her.
“Are you sure this is the route we’re taking here?” For once, Mia notes Cheshire’s voice sounds uncertain. She had always had an air about her that she knew one more thing than Mia, that she was always one step ahead, but that had gone right into the window from where Mia punted it back into Cheshire’s face.
“There’s no choice. I’m not letting The Institute claim her. She’s too young and with any luck, you’ll all head back to my body if something happens to me. That means, there’s a chance I can come back should the worst occur.”
“Yeah, but how do you know that should the worst occur, what you want to happen, will actually happen?” Loki’s question makes Mia pause for a moment, deep in thought. She takes another puff while the light continues to beckon her to the cabin. She takes a step forward and her entourage follows.
“It doesn’t matter. Zephyr is more important right now. Even if I’m not able to come back from this… At the very least I’m leaving three able bodied people to take charge. I’m not worried.” Mia’s voice sounded more confident than she had thought it would and she was pleased that Amelia didn’t have anything to say to follow up. For the moment, Loki and Cheshire stay silent and alert, ready for any kind of unexpected surprise. They all grow tense, ready for anything, but surprisingly nothing happens as they make it to the cabin.
Mia doesn’t bother to knock as she opens the door gently, “Zephyr? I’m her…” Her voice stops in mid sentence as Mia and her personas gaze upon what has been keeping Zephyr. She sits in a chair, awake and fully aware of all the tubes flowing into her arms. She looks miserable, but a small glimmer appears in her eyes as she watches Mia enter.
“So… Funny story…” Mia cuts off Zephyr with a raise of her hand as she smirks, “Lemme guess, this is a device implanted by your Friends of Parastophocles or whatever they’re called. It would go off if you didn’t let it take over, but at the same time, the coma is working in your favor because the weapon one could assume, can’t work if the body is sleeping?”
Zephyr nods, “Not really up to being a soldier for them again.”
Mia nods, walking around and observing it as Cheshire, Loki, and Amelia stand guard. She pokes a few tubes, pulls on a few more, and then pushes Zephyr forward with all of her might! Zephyr tumbles out of the chair as Mia leaps in, the tubes automatically taking over as Zephyr recovers, horror in her eyes.
“What… What the fuck Mia?!”
Mia smiles, taking out her ecig and tossing it over to Zephyr before shrugging, “Because you have a person who loves you waiting for you and I have a person that loves me, that wouldn’t want me to ignore trying to give you a happy ending. Go with the others, they’ll get you out safely. Way I see it, this thing will realize I’m not Zephyr in a few moments and then, well… It will probably go boom.” She shrugs again as Zephyr leaps forward to try and take over again. However, she runs into Mia’s boot and is quickly grabbed by Loki and Amelia as Cheshire pushes them out. With one last look at Mia who was looking around her curiously, maybe a little fear creeping into her features, Cheshire pleads with her,
“Are you sure there’s no other way? Maybe I can take that spot for you?”
Mia smiles gently, “You know as well as I do that it’s too late for that and it probably wouldn’t have worked as well. Please, go take care of things for me, it’s your turn to shine and you’re going to do our side wonders. Just, don’t forget about me ok?”
The two mirror images of each other share a smile before Cheshire runs out of the shack. Quickly joining the others, a shrill shriek pierces through whatever plane of existence they all stood on, as the small and blinking light that beckoned Mia forward originally, became blinding white. With a soft *POOF* the shack shatters into hundreds of pieces and the shrieking stops. Cheshire looks on in horror as the pieces left behind shatter until finally, nothing is left from what was there. The four stand in silence suddenly when the three personas start shrieking in pain, Zephyr startled beyond belief without knowing what to do…
Mount Sinai Hospital
November 4th 2020
The shriek was ungodly, unlike anything that Belle had heard ever before. Without waiting for Mac or Matt, she dashes through the door and down the hall to Zephyr’s room, passing by a guy that quickly bolted down a side hallway and a janitor with a bit of burlap in his hand. She pays it no mind though as she dashes into Zephyr’s room, only to find…
Mia, the source of that awful noise, on the cot that Belle had used when she slept overnight to watch Zephyr. Her eyes filling with tears and wondering what was happening, Belle turns toward Zephyr’s bed, to find Zephyr, sitting upright, her emerald green eyes fixated on her like it was the first time they met. Despite the noise from Mia, who suddenly stops screaming and plops back down in bed, Zephyr hops out of bed and goes over to Belle, stopping just shy, almost like it was the first meeting between Tarzan and Jane. Barely able to believe it, Belle brings her hand up to Zephyr’s face, Zephyr quickly grabbing it and bringing it to her, cementing in Belle’s mind that she was indeed real. Belle begins to sob uncontrollably as Zephyr pulls her into a lover’s embrace.
They held each other tight for maybe several seconds before releasing, but to each of them, it felt like eternity. They break apart smiling, but Zephyr’s eyes quickly widen as she remembers what had happened, “MIA!” She scrambles up off the floor and goes over to the cot, picking Mia up as her older sister’s amethyst eyes flutter open. Zephyr paused for a second, always remembering Mia with brown eyes in her memories; when an echo of a memory flutters across her face. She backs away slowly, unsure what to do next, and goes absently to Belle, her base instinct to protect her girlfriend taking over.
Mia smiles and gets slowly out of the bed, going over to Zephyr, and extending her hand.
“We haven’t formally met, but I’m sure that you’ve heard, A LOT about me. I’d love for us to get off on the right track…”
Mia’s smile is genuine, Zephyr had no doubt about that, but before she could respond, Belle began talking, “Mia? Wha…?”
Mia holds up a finger and wiggles it, clicking her tongue at Belle. “Oh no moppet, I’m NOT Mia. Your girlfriend can fill you in later, but for now you can call me…”
She pauses, almost for dramatic effect,
“Cheshire.”
