MiAtlantis - A place inside MYa’s head…
Stardate: Before Matt Knox so rudely interrupts in the previous chapter...
Mia sits in quiet contemplation, the calming fog filled with her preferred color pallet swirling around her as her various personas milled about, only when her thoughts turned to each in turn. The events leading up to this moment had been tumultuous to say the least and Mia only just managed to hold things together. She takes the sleeve off of her left arm, the cuts she made after Belle gave her a well deserved punch to an open wound still fresh on her skin. She contemplates each one when she hears a voice that startles her from her quiet thoughts.
“I thought you were done with that…”
A gloved gentle hand is offered to Mia and she graciously takes it, Ataxia swooping her off her feet as the two waltz through the fogs of MiAtlantis. Mia looks into her lover’s eyes, forgetting everything that had happened and remembering just how much she missed him. “I… There’s been a lot that’s been going on. Everything is different than before and… You and Shadow aren’t here.”
Ataxia goes to speak but Mia lays a finger gently on his burlap masked face. “Love, I understand the why, but if you aren’t going to be here, then you have to listen while I give you these updates. We both know time is short when we’re able to see each other, however infrequent that is…” They both silent as they pause their waltz to kiss, a gesture that shows just how much they miss each other. Silence takes over as the blue, purple, and green fogs roll around them. Mia smiles and looks into Ataxia’s eyes, “You need to know when it’s time to come and sweep me off my feet again. We do have a wedding to plan after all; but until then, The Institute are back in our life, bigger, stronger, and deadlier than ever. Zephyr is out cold, knocked out by someone who didn’t know any better and now can’t be woken up. The Ouroboros is reborn, Su as a mouthpiece and a new player in the field. They… They tried to sacrifice someone Tax. We managed to save the guy, but they had him tied up and poured actual gasoline over his head. This goes far beyond any kind of wrestling thing; I’m not even sure if I’ll be able to convince the roster about anything when the only person that I had hope of convincing, is the most down to Earth person I've ever met before."
This time it’s Ataxia that gently places a finger on Mia’s lips as he begins to pick the waltz back up again. Silence once again falls as Mia places her head on Ataxia’s shoulder, enjoying his embrace as his voice overtakes her senses, “One thing at a time m’dear. There isn’t much I can add to this conversation since I’m not there, but… Based on experience, the best things in life usually are broken apart several times over, only to be rebuilt into something new and exciting. Better than before. These times are no different than a person picking up fragmented pieces of what is theirs and putting it back together, this time with lasers and a smart defense system. Everything breaks, but not everything remains that way.”
Mia nods into his shoulder, “Break it apart, put it back together again better than before. I tried to do that with Zephyr, at least Amelia did, but we see how well that turned out…”
Ataxia shushes her again, “You know she’d be awake right now if The Institute weren’t scared of her. Think about it, your sisters were under their control for most of their life. Growing up and enduring hell, becoming a perfect weapon against you, do you REALLY think that they wouldn’t have a fail safe?”
Mia’s eyes widen, “I… That’s… How did I not see it before? They blow her up and don’t have to worry about her ever fighting back. If that’s what they did, then why hasn’t it blown up yet?”
Ataxia chuckles, his laughter warming Mia’s soul, “I don’t know if you’re aware, but between you and your sisters, I don’t think I know anyone more stubborn. Zephyr is fighting it, she wakes up and it blows. She fights waking up? The longer she has a chance to seek a solution.”
Mia breaks from Ataxia, their waltz over as panic starts to overtake all of Mia’s senses at once, an anxiety attack strangling off her control over her landscape slipping away and the area turning dark. Ataxia casually strolls over to her and lays another hand on her shoulder.
“I understand you want to save Zephyr and to be honest if I was there with you, that would be my priority as well. Staying in a hospital is like just lying chained and waiting for The Institute. But…” Ataxia gently takes Mia by the hand, holding it up for Mia to see the unfinished lotus tattoo, and in the center, Mia’s stone glowing a gentle hue, “You have had the power to help your sister out the entire time Dorothy.”
Ataxia gently backs up as Mia’s eyes grow in recognition, “You mean I can…?” Ataxia nods, “You’ll have to be close, undisturbed, essentially how you’re able to function here in MiAtlantis. However, you’ll be able to enter into Zephyr’s mind state and save her…” His words trail off sadly and Mia’s gaze turns to meet his.
“But?”
Ataxia hesitates, “Based on previous dealings with The Institute, it wouldn’t surprise me if they made it so that should the fail safe goes off, it will have a fail safe of its own…”
Mia puts her hand down, “Someone has to make sure the boom happens. Bomb goes off, Zephyr escapes and I…” She falls silent, the inevitable conclusion coming to her, “It doesn’t matter. I’ll figure out a way to…”
Ataxia shakes his head, “I know you’ll find a way Mia, but in the meantime, while you’re putting yourself back together, you’ll have a couple options.”
Mia nods, “Be catatonic, or make sure someone can pull all the levers and push ALL the buttons…” Mia’s eyes light up deviously and Ataxia swoops in and picks her up, spinning her in the air. The two enjoy the moment but they both knew their time was almost up. “I love you Tax. Please come back to me safe and insane.”
Ataxia nods, “Oh, my love for you is something that even the sappiest of romcoms are jelly of. I’ll come back to you and together we will have a wedding that will be spoken about for times to come.”
The embrace one final time before Ataxia fades from Mia’s embrace, and she wakes up in the hospital waiting room, a slight twinge in her neck. It didn’t matter though because like always, there was planning to do.
