((OOC: Collab with the great Kat Jones)
Matt Knox sat in catering, nursing a Vitamin Water as he watches staff and star pass by in the kind of hustle that only a pay per view could bring. As usual, he had motive for sitting in the high traffic area. Always trying to help & save…
Even when it was too late.
Kat Jones walked into catering, she looked around and saw the food shaking her head with a clear look of disgust and walked right to the drinks and grabbed herself a vitamin water.. She walked by Knox nodding her head towards him..
"Miss Jones. A minute?" He called after her, not moving except for his eyes which locked onto her figure, and a finger that tapped the side of his beverage.
Kat turned towards him and tilted her head slightly as she wondered what he wanted with her.. “Mister Knox.. Sober this time I see”. She walked towards him and sat down across from him..
He paid a small smile, "Much more than I'd like to be, admittedly," he twists the cap off his drink and takes a swig before continuing "Again, apologies. But I'm not interested in history. No, I'd like to talk about the future. Your future, mostly."
Kat frowned and leaned back in her seat, opening her own bottle of vitamin water she takes a sip before putting it on the table nearby her. “My future.. Do tell what the fortune tellers are coming up with for my fucked up life?”
"All depends on the path you take, I suppose," he replied dryly before rolling his shoulders and leaning forward, resting his elbows on the table and staring into her eyes "The one where you start working with Winter? That's a very bad one I'm afraid."
“So everyone keeps telling me.. However not a single one has explained to me why..” Kat leaned forward looking into Knox’s eyes with her own dark eyes.. “Everyone is quick to tell me to forget about Alex.. To not work with him.. That he is bad news.. But nobody said why.. So tell me Knox… Why?”
"He's a puppet convinced he's a puppeteer. Lack of honor, decency. No accountability. Cheater. Just off the top of my head," he replies, inhaling and slowly releasing the breath "Man is possessed with a self destructive arrogance but is too arrogant to acknowledge it. When he self destructs...everyone around him will be caught in the blast"
"And frankly, you'll have to deal with me. And I am...kind of a pain"
“I am not afraid to face you Knox.. I appreciate you at least telling me why instead of just saying he is bad news.. I have heard that but nobody will say what makes him bad news but can I tell you something..” Kat leaned in and smirked.. “I am not a good girl Knox.. I do not have the arrogance or the bullshit he has and trust me I see right through it.. I am not one for honor and decency.. I can be a decent person.. But I was born and raised on the streets and I did not make it here by staying a good little girl.. If you trust anything I say.. Trust me on this.. I know what I am doing and what I am getting into..”
Matthew stays silent, gaze never faltering. A chuckle escapes him as he leans back into his seat, raising a hand to stroke his chin. "Funny," he says plainly "I would have thought such a rough life would have made you impervious to the charm of rich assholes with evil intent." He trails off, then shakes his head.
"Forgive me. That was out of line. If you've made the bed, and find it comfortable...I guess I'll sell my wares elsewhere, then."
“Again with the judgement.. Here I thought you were different… I did not now nor did I ever get charmed by the money.. or the man that waves it around.. My rough life made certain that my life is my own and I live it as I please and I will not give a flying fuck if the entire world hates my choices or supports them.. My bed is made for me and me alone..” Kat got up and grabbed her bottle of vitamin water.. “I do not get charmed.. I do not get smooth talked.. I made a business decision.. And I will gladly deal with the fall out that comes from it.. Instead of trying to talk me out of it.. You are convincing me I am doing right by me no matter what happens..”
“Well...i’m not very influential, I admit. Hell, you’ve seen me on a mic. I usually get about...a paragraph in then I start swinging,” he remarks amusedly, tone taking a decidedly more detached feel as his eyes wander the room again, “If you stand with the man who threatens my family, you carry that same pail of water. Justify your stance however you need to, Miss Jones. I have.” his eyes snapping back to her, expression and gaze much less friendly than before.
“You do you boo.. And I will always do right by me..” Kat walked towards him and put her hand on his shoulder before leaning down.. “Thanks for caring.. But I am a big girl Knox.. I can handle your fury.. And if you take a swing at me rest assured.. I will have earned it by then..” Kat kissed his hair and turned to walk away..
“Yeah. You will have.” Is all Knox replies, remaining still through the contact. He watches her as she leaves, taking one more drink of the Vitamin Water, his face twisting into a sour expression as he shakes his head.
“Never dull.”
