As always -- A wonderful collab with the forever brooding Matt Knox <3

The night was a cool one but Mia didn’t mind. She smiles up at the smoke she had just finished exhaling as she sits and waits. She didn’t know quite what she was waiting for, but so far she got a free shirt out of the deal; and there was nothing wrong with that. She admired the shirt, it spoke to her, speaking little riddles of being resolute in a strong wind or something equally as ridiculous.
But that was how Mia preferred things. Ridiculous.
She smiles again down at the shirt before tossing it over her shoulder and taking another puff off of her e-cig. After what felt like an eternity, a very battered Mitch Knox walks out of the door leading backstage. At least… Mia thinks the guy’s name was Mitch. Math? She knew his last name was Knox because one of Mia’s favorite games to play was knocking on wood and then batting herself playfully in the head while winking at no one in particular. The effect was lost on so many people but that was part of the fun. Leave people guessing and…
Mia blinks. Unbeknownst to her, her boots had decided to carry her to an appropriate distance behind Knox, whatever his first name might be. Steeling herself, Mia takes a slight deep breath before exhaling slowly and putting on her best enigmatic smirk. “Ah… Mr. Bond, we meet again.”
Knox’s gait falters, and then he stops. He clears his throat, turning around “Mia, was it? How can I help you?” he rasps out, taking a moment to peer down at his watch, furrowing his brow, “Not to be rude but, I’ve got a da--somewhere to be here in about twenty minutes so, if we can keep this short?”
Mia stops to consider it, “We COULD, but where is the fun in that? Look, before you go off whimsically into the night like a modern day Batman, the very LEAST you could do is give me just a small fraction of your time so you can see that I’m not just another whackadoo looking for their next violent fix. Capice?”
Knox pauses and turns and Mia takes a breath, meeting his gaze evenly. “Thank you…” She nods before continuing and produces a paper bag from her back pocket. “It seems that bounties on people are highly frowned upon in some circles and C$J happened to have one on… Long story short, me.”
She stops and takes a puff off her e-cig before continuing and leaning against a nearby wall, seemingly steadying herself. “So… I went and got it from him toward the end of the night, not sure if you’re aware, but ten-thousand dollars is A LOT of money to count out, all right here in this bag I’m holding right now. I’m not looking for time in the limelight, I don’t need fancy cars or high end meals punctuated with all the glitter of having this much money. I don’t NEED it. The first time I ever heard of a Matt Knox was tonight as he was about to drive C$J into La-La Land. In that moment, I could tell that you were the ‘go-to’ person in Carnage. Seemingly from out of no where, your name is the one most spoken, regardless of how much you get beaten to tar. Point being tall, dark, and broody I was hoping that you could help find me some people to give this money to. Someone deserving and will put the money to GOOD use. Might have to actually disinfect it first though since it WAS C$J’s at one point…”
She suddenly looks at the bag, unsure if it’s something she really wants to be holding before looking back at Knox. As she waits for his reaction, she puffs on her e-cig, her eyes never leaving his. Matthew eyes her up and down silently, perhaps looking for a weakness in case the situation goes sideways. She seemed trustworthy earlier, but deception and wrestling fit together like peas and carrots.
She had a kind face, though. And Face value still had some inherent value.
“If you mean people who could use a little extra, Mitch Heart and Adrienne Levi. It’s not my business to go into why, but they could definitely use a little more than what they get here,” a pause “But you’d need to make it look official. They won’t take handouts for the sake of them. Mitch is too old school and prideful, and Ade’s heart is so big she’ll feel guilty that not everyone else got a pay day.”
Mia looks thoughtful for a moment, “So the little chick that dropped your’s truly on my head when she was just a wee thing on Beyond the Belle; and the dude that seems to be some kind of hardcore sleeper agent ready for his next payday. BUT… To do what needs to be done, I have to come off as some officially official person with a reason to give them a five thousand dollar bonus check.”
She glances at the money and puts it back in her pocket before looking at Knox once again, “So now that I’ve got the who, I might need help with the why’s and how’s of the situation. I have somewhat of a ‘history’ believe it or not. As you might be able to imagine, I’m not seen as the most trustworthy of associates.” She shrugs, “Be that as it may, you have a choice Knox, amigo, friend of mine… I have in my possession enough money to give to both of your… Acquaintances? Friends? Family? Cousins of friends twice removed? Whatever they are, you gave up their names with no hesitation and that…? That tells me something. So… Do you take this money from me and reward them with it, say you got it however you’d like; or…? You make some time in your busy schedule to make an introduction that let’s be honest…” She chuckles, a sound as mystifying as her, “Will be one that none of us will forget anytime in the near future. You make the meeting, I’ll handle the why they deserve this more than anyone else that I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with while on this roster. That’s all… I’m just trying to be a ‘good conscience.’” Mia winks at Knox, her face always masked by a dark mirth.
Matthew leans down, staring her in the eye “I’ve got no idea on your history, nor do I really care for it. Far as I’m concerned, all Mia has done is skip down and watch me drop some jackass on his head. So there’s no trust issues, or an overabundance of trust either,” He narrows his eyes “But know this, if this is some ploy to get me, or Mitch, or Ade indebted to you? I’ll put you down with the boss. So, after I leave and set this up? Keep that in mind.” His face breaks into it’s own smile then
“But, I’m sure that won’t be an issue. You just want to do right and help, right Ma?”
Mia looks slightly taken aback, her face in mock shock before breaking into a coy grin. “Why Mr. Knox! Whatever do you imply!” She giggles and let's the tension out of the air, “Fair enough. Clean slate and all of that jazz. My motives are to keep this place going for years to come, but without overshadowing the actual people doing the work. Consider me…” She pauses, thinking about it, “The Watcher? But I don’t want to be bald in anyone’s fantasy… Whatever, you have ‘things to do.’ Wouldn’t want to hold you up.” She punctuates the last word before winking once again and pushing off the wall to leave. Mia skips around the corner, before doing a U-turn and heading back, getting within an inch of Knox’s face. “And Knox? If I had ANY beef with you, if I wanted you to know that I was unhappy with what you’re doing and what you’ve shown to be about? I would come to your face and I would tell you. You want challenges? How about encountering the chick that ‘everyone has seen before,’ yet no one has found the answer to?” She shrugs and turns on her heel, calling back. “Busy things and what not. You do you and let me know the details when you can. Till then, you stay broody!”
“Have a pleasant night, Mia,” he pauses “You’re not as bad as they all think you are.” he concludes, before heading to his car while feverishly checking his watch.
