(Collab with Dragon Lady.)
Matt Knox was alone now in his hospital room. The TV off, alone with his thoughts. He had his eyes half closed as he relived the night once more. Feeling everything compress as he slammed into the floor on the outside. He feels a twinge go up his back as a smirk crosses his face “Next time” he mumbles before closing his eyes and trying to drift off
The Dragon Lady paced in an aisle at a little convenience store. This late at night, hardly anything was open. And now she struggled trying to pick and choose the most perfect gift for a one downed Matt Knox.
After grabbing a stuffed animal next to a package of beef jerky, she paid the clerk and left. Almost anyone would be able to tell she looks quite frustrated as she stomped from the little store.
After a short drive that felt like hours, she is standing in an elevator going up a floor with her little gift in hand. In that meanwhile, Knox had managed to hum and chest drum most of Black Sabbath’s Paranoid album, as well as get his blood pressure checked and administered more morphine. So he was at least aiming and moving toward an actual sleep, but not quite there.
“Fuzzy in-between” he mumbles to the dark, lonely room. Bert had gone back to the hotel at his behest. Knox wanted him to sleep in a bed, and shower for the sake of all that was good and holy.
The Dragon Lady went to the front desk on the second floor. Noticing just about everything. Nurses and doctors moved about with clipboards and papers. The lights in the main area are dimmed to help patients sleep.
Most of the rooms are dark. The Dragon Lady would soon find herself at the front desk on the second floor. "Someone downstairs told me I could find, well, Matt Knox up here. I would have come earlier, but I could not. My job… just wouldn't let me get here sooner. I brought a gift…"
The Dragon Lady would shove it most awkwardly into the nurses face. "I just need to see him. Real quick. I promise." the poor Nurse would recoil from the stuffed animal, and look down to her computer, and after a few keystrokes she responds “He’s down the hall, bed 415A” before she goes back to sucking down a night shift Starbucks
Matthew himself had closed his eyes, feeling no pain. He was still awake, because without having the spine, ribs, head, and knee to focus on his brain now dug up all the figurative bones to drive him up the goddamn wall. Like what excuse he’d use to evade watching Dragon Lady and Adrienne fight. Felt shitty, considering his friendship with Ade. But he couldn’t deny how the new arrival made him feel.
Shit, the morphine is making him honest. He steels his jaw, effectively shutting his trap. The Dragon Lady slowly crept towards his room. She would walk in slowly. The emotions on her face would have gone from bad to worse as she stopped just outside his door and peered in.
She took slow steps forward clutching the gift she got him close to her chest and in between balled fists. She stood just where his feet were propped on his hospital bed. Slowly she looked away.
Feeling a presence, Knox stirs slightly, eyes opening halfway. He sees her silhouette but not much else. He elects to remain quiet, and watches her whilst doing so. Closing his eyes as soon as her face turns toward him. She looked familiar, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. Christ, wouldn’t it just be the way if this was some murderous super fan?
She took a step forward. Then another. Until she was by his hand. She would reach her own hand to his and grabbed it lightly. She looked away again. Anyone could tell something was eating her up from the inside.
Feeling her hand, Knox remained still but tensed up, ready to snatch it if he felt her move toward the tubes or machinery. The touch did make goosebumps race up his arm though, which in turn caused the hairs to stand on end. Maybe his body was just craving affection after decimation. Maybe it was the morphine. But what it most assuredly was, was nice.
With a shaking breath, The Dragon Lady said with a most hurt voice, "I am sorry." She squeezed his hand a tad tighter and said, "Thank you." She let go of his hand then to wipe tears from her eyes. Knox twitches. That voice. He knew it from somewhere. He longed to reach out for her hand, but stuck to the pseudo sleep.
Obviously, she felt conflicted being here whoever it was. Maybe they knew Zane? Was that why there were sorry? Or was it just ‘holy fuck you got dropped on your head one thousand million times' pity sorry? Didn’t matter..that voice was like smoked velvet.
After collecting her thoughts and feelings… The Dragon Lady looked at Matt Knox with tears still in her eyes. She then proceeded with lifting the arm nearest to her, and sliding her little gift under his arm.
A black stuffed bird type looking animal. The only thing she could find that even resembled a raven. She got to her knees by his bed and whispered things under her breath as she rested her elbows next to him. Skin to skin. The only thing he would be able to make out that she said is "Please help him. I am just so sorry. Please."
She said this all with a shaky voice. before she got to her feet slowly. She wiped her nose with her sleeve and then left Matt Knox laying there too beat up looking for her liking. Matthew opens his eyes and watches her leave. He sits up painfully, pulling the bird from under his arm and lifting it to look at. A blackbird. He chuckled, then turned to the note, opening it and reading it the best he could in the low light
Pearl? C$J?
A slow smile crawled over his face as he sunk into the hospital bed, clutching the stuffed bird
“Pearl” what a pretty name for a Dragon

I am sorry. I wish I was better at this. I wish I didn't feel like such a dweeb. And I am sorry for anything bad that happened on account of me. Thanks. For talkin to C$J on my behalf even though I didn't ask. - Pearl
