Matthew Knox let out a slow exhale to soothe his rage as he continued down the hall. He was dressed in a WAR 2020 T Shirt, jeans and a pair of converse that looked as old as he was. He would eventually make it to Christopher St Joseph’s office. He lingered at the door a moment, before knocking on it three times, and awaiting an answer. Through the door C$J looks up from his documents on his desk. Several applications, a temporary legends contract for Jack Michaels, and several other papers are strewn across his desk, current events preventing him from finishing what he needs to. What’s another disruption?
C$J: Come in… Not that I’m not busy…
After a moment, Knox twists the knob and pushes the door in, stepping into the room he stares at C$J silently for a beat. He’d yet to be this close to the new boss. He held back a sneer from cracking his stone like facial expression before speaking
Matt Knox: Hope i’m not interrupting. I’m sure Chaos left you with at least some paperwork to fill out. Between that and your goon recruiting..
C$J holds up his hand.
C$J: Let me stop you right there…
He looks up from the paperwork he is studying, doing his best to ignore the underling.
C$J: Knox is it? Gonna keep this nice and simple for you. My business. Stay out of it. Go run along now. Don’t you have some orphans to teach to wrestle or something?
Knox exhales through his nose, casting his eyes downward a moment and shaking his head. He steps fully into the room then, and shuts the door behind him. He strides to the desk, and takes a seat in the chair opposite Christopher. He meets his gaze, before leaning back and raising his feet, resting them on the desk
Matt Knox: Well, if we’re going to be up front, it’s my Father in Law who makes children wrestle. Not me. And your business? That’s the whole roster’s business. Whatever you do, affects everyone. Be it appeasing the ego of a retiree…
He narrows his eyes then, his voice taking a darker edge and more threatening tone.
Matt Knox: Or screwing someone out of a win on some trumped up “slow count” bullshit to get your goon an unearned victory. That...That affects everyone. You might sign checks, but we bring in the cash. And we’re damn good at it. And i’m telling you, Chris. Can I call you Chris? I’m going to.
Knox drags his boots off the desk, making sure to scuff the wood as he brings his feet back to the floor, and leans forward before speaking again
Matt Knox: You make pulling that shit a habit, and we’ll go make someone else all that money you enjoy controlling
C$J scoffs, sitting back in his chair and looking down his nose at the scuff marks. Without hesitation though, he picks up his feet and puts them on the desk, tilting back in his specialized chair. He calmly puts his arms behind his head and laughs lightly before cutting himself off and meeting Knox’s gaze.
C$J: Is that what this what today’s tantrum is about Cupcake? You’re mad because your girlfriend lost and I’m bringing back a main event talent, a person who has sold out SEVERAL shows… And let me ask you this Matthew. Can I call you Matthew? Because I’m going to whether you like it or not; how many shows have you sold out while here in Carnage hmm? Scratch that, just how many have you main evented? Let me answer that for you. Zero, zilch, nada. You want to call yourself MY money maker?! Don’t make me laugh. I’ll have more than you have seen in even your richest of fantasies. I’ve earned it all and the money that you are earning me? Icing on an already rich cake you ignorant BASTARD. So, since you’re all up in my business, let me give you a little insight.
He takes his feet off the desk and leans forward, his gaze never leaving Knox’s as he puts his elbows on his desk and rests his chin in his hands.
C$J: I made Dragon Lady an offer to be put into a championship match. She said no and was very rude about it if memory serves. I mean… After ONE match, I offer her a chance at gold and she walks away?! I was willing to give her a chance and she turned her nose up at me. NO ONE turns their nose up on me Matthew and you had best remember that. Secondly, Jack Michaels came in and decided because of his status, he could do whatever the fuck he wanted. He is nothing short of a bully with status. You know all about that one Matthew, I’m sure; thinking you can come in here and bully the suit behind the desk? No. Jack came in and demanded a match. A headlining match that will not only net me a massive bonus for this cycle of shows, but will also provide a healthy bonus in anyone who has a match at said supershow. Had I given YOU that chance? You would have botched, you would have failed, and you would have fallen flatter than anyone that I’ve seen fall before me, and trust me Matthew, there’s been a lot.
C$J sits back again and steeples his fingers in front of him as he glares pointedly at Knox.
C$J: You keep dealing with the under card and you’re going to stay in the under card. You want to start making the big bucks? You come talk to the person that knows how to make them. Alex Winter saw an opportunity to make that money and I didn’t see any reason why not to give him that chance. Are you jealous that I didn’t ask you first Matthew. I’m sorry, let me remedy that for you now. Would you like a chance to earn more money and in exchange you drop the “old man teaching young crowd new tricks” gimmick and start taking things a bit more seriously? Maybe ditch the second hand Hot Topic look? Then we can start talking about putting you in that main event spot. But first? You might want to focus on climbing out of that hole of a…
Knox is on his feet in an instant then, having heard enough he kneels down and snatches the edge of the desk and with a bellow he flips it off to one side, sending it’s tabletop contents scattering and flying everywhere. He steps up to Christopher then, snatching him by the collar and lifting him out of the chair before shoving him into the wall
Matt Knox: Now listen here, you little shit. And listen good. I would never, EVER do your dirty work. And I assure you, i’m more than a bully. I’ll earn my shot, and when I do beat Jack Michaels, Ken Davison, Amber Ryan who ever for that title..i’m going to personally rub your snot nose in it
He sneers, and with a grunt he lifts Christopher off his feet by the collar still, bringing him to eye level
Matt Knox: You fuck around anymore with the talent, you fix any more matches like you did against Dragon Lady and i’ll make it my business to shelve all the goons you hire. I’ll make them afraid of your money. I’m going to start with Alex, because he’s earned it. I told him, and I’m telling you. As soon as he’s in the ring with me, I’m going to break his arm. And if you fuck around again, it’s his other arm
Matt releases C$J then and steps back, staring him up and down he chuckles
Matt Knox: Pricks like you, they’ve been around forever. Never fucking learn either. I might not draw like Jack Michaels, but all these “new kids” and “orphans” you’re putting down? They’re the new generation here, Christopher. And you’re too blind to see, that the Mitch Hearts, Silvio Leons, Adrienne Levi’s, Jon Willis’ and the like are going to be greater than any “Paragon” ever was to Carnage.
He turns to leave, but stops and chuckles once more
Matt Knox: And don’t bullshit a bullshitter. Michaels didn’t bully you for a thing. You saw a pay day, and decided to ignore those deserving of a shot. Like one of two undefeated talents on your roster...god damn fool.
Knox opens the door, and as he steps out leaves a final remark
Matt Knox: Clean this place up, punk
C$J watches Knox leave getting up from where he is on the floor and surveying the damage. Sighing, he pulls out his phone and hits a few buttons before returning it to his pocket. Strolling over to a nearby filing cabinet, he pulls out a file folder, scanning over the contents when a soft knock on the door comes. C$J beckons them in and looks up to see the janitor, shocked at the scene before him.
C$J: Once again Arnold, this place is a pig stye. Please clean up and make it perfect this time around. Would hate to have to dock your pay… Or something. Now, if you don’t mind, I have to go. Someone just demanded my “special” attentions.
Arnold the janitor salutes C$J and shudders as C$J leaves, closing the door behind him. Arnold has seen what C$J can do, having been employed by the man for several years. Even the janitor didn’t envy whomever had earned C$J’s wrath….
C$J: Come in… Not that I’m not busy…
