“He looks out the window, his arm in a sling. He watches the cars drive on the street. He thinks about everything that has happened to him recently. He sighs in relief knowing his shoulder can finally heal a bit. The world continues to move even though Eli wants it to go back. He wants to return to the days of Paragon being one, singular unit. He wants everything to go back to normal. The world as he knew it had fallen apart.
Not long ago, Amber Michaels had called him to end their relationship. He couldn’t blame her. He was never there for her. He was always keeping her in the dark. He had not treated her the way she needed to be treated.
Next, Amber Ryan ignored his phone call to talk about the situation. He knew that she probably had better things to do. Maybe she and Mac were discussing something, or maybe she was talking to Jack about something. He didn’t know. All he knew was that Amber was busy with something else, and he didn’t want to bother her with the details of his life.
Now, he was about to fight his friend Kyra Johnson for her title. Or, at least, he considers her his friend. There have been a lot of physical differences that he had noticed about her. A lot of emotional differences that had occurred in her. Was it because of Ken? It was probably because of Ken.
Eli can’t stand it. He can’t stand that everything is changing around him… But, that’s how life is. Life changes so that you can become better. Without change, Eli wouldn’t have gotten the chance he has now. He made a change in how he was going to treat life, and now he’s the number one contender for the UltraViolent Championship. And he did all of that by ignoring me.”
As Eli looks out the window, Joker appears in the mirror. He looks at Eli and sighs.
“Sure, I helped him along the way, but let’s be honest, I was more of a detriment to him than actual help. Look at the match with Ken, I was the one that tapped out. Not him. I cost him that match because I wanted him to go crazy. Maybe, that’s what he needed to know. Maybe, he needed to know that I couldn’t have helped him with this new future.
Don’t worry, I’ll still be around. I’ll be the reminder of what he shouldn’t be. The thing that he needs to avoid. He needs to know that a bright future is ahead of him. He just needs to stay on course. Otherwise, he’ll turn up like me… or worse.”
Joker fades away from the mirror as Eli smiles out the window.
