It was mid afternoon the day of Chaos 94 and Insidious have arrived at the arena. With them though was a group of kids ranging from 8 to 17 wearing various Imperial Youth Wrestling shirts. Scatter through the group were several adults. All of them had at one time been or other won championship gold in some wrestling promotion in the pasts. Familiar to some are Sujir Thorn, James Jefferson, Velvet Grey and the man who had been called Zanatos during his career. More openly recognizable is Astryd Knox as she had been on Chaos 93 the month before. Among the kids Ivy, hope and Isabella could all be seen walking in a group talking.

Matthew sat in the back, taping his fists up in anticipation for the match. He's already in his ring pants, boots laced. He was early, but he was ready. He stood, slicking his hair back once more, and turned to the nearest wall. He began to shadowbox, focusing on his breathing. What did he know? Silvio was fast. Faster than he ever was. He'd need to break him down, if he could. Clip his wings, ground him.

Faintly, he hears a group of people moving out in the hallway. He ignores it, continuing his work. Now, after this he had his first tag match to worry about. Adrienne was capable, but he needed to learn as much as he could at least about Matthews. Alexa was easy. Pop him in the mouth, and he'll crumble. People only talk that much when it's all they can do, he reasons..

Again, the shuffle. Were they letting fans in here?

As the group passes by Knox, James Jefferson sees him and breaks away from the group to approach.

"My Gawd, is that you Birdman? I haven't seen you since you were trolling around with the Meds back in FWF. Good to see you are still kicking it."

As James stands there a pair of girls come over and stand at his sides with their IYW shirts.

"Meet my girl's Jenna and Joy."

The trio stand there waiting for a response.

Matthew tenses visibly. He turns, and leers at Jefferson a moment before the reflection flashes over his eyes "Lexapro! Brother, how are you?" He approaches the man, faltering a step when he is joined by his daughters. a slight pang behind his ribs "Well, look at that. Guess there's proof we're all getting older. You see Rob anymore?" his tone slightly hopeful. They were ridiculous, The Medz, but they always managed to lighten the mood "And what the hell are you doin' here anyway?"

"No haven't talked to those guys since FWF closed down and gave birth the PWE."

James sighs wistfully as he wraps an arm around his daughters' shoulders.

"Yeah the older part is right. As for why I am here, well long story my wrestling school for troubled youth is part of the Imperial Youth Wrestling SouthWest Region. They kids are putting on matches at some event called WrestleStock this weekend down in Arizona. I am just along as chaperone and match referee. Isabella would be able to tell you more about it."

James motions a hand over to where Isabella as still deep in conversation with Hope.

"As I understand it the booking is all her work."

"Wrestling?" His brows furrow, eyes narrow as he stares at Lexapro "Imperial? What, you're running with Thor now? And the kids are wrest--" He followed Lexapro's gaze. One girl he didn't recognize, but the other he could pick out from a million miles away with both eyes ripped from his skull "MY ki--no."

Matt pushed past Lexapro, and marched over to Hope and Isabella "Hope!" He called out, sternly. 'Easy, Knox' he heard his brain call out, knowing logically the last thing he should do is try and play 'OH NO YOU DONT' with one of two kids he had abandoned. As he got there, he nodded briskly, but respectfully to Isabella "Hope Knox, what are you doing here, who the hell said you could wrestle? Where's your mom? Do you have any idea how dangerous this is?" It all poured out at once with the grace of a bull in a china shop. His mind screamed for him to stop, but he couldn't. Instincts long neglected won out

James shakes his head about to answer before Knox loses it.

"Her mother is right here and is perfectly aware of what is going on."

Astryd push forward from off to the side as Isabella and Hope stand there confused.

"Having a supervised organized youth wrestling league is a lot less dangerous than having these kids out doing it on their own in the backyard. Besides Matthew what gives you the right to suddenly have a say in your daughters' lives? You have made it pretty clear that you don't want to be a family.

These words are said Ivy comes and looks at Knox with a pair of confused eyes.

"Oh, right. There mom said it's fine to go bump around and tear up muscles. Fantastic" He rubuts, voice dripping with venom "There's always, oh, i don't know. Reading. Math club. Chess. Music. Some form of not-fucking-this!" He throws his hands up, in awe of the whole situation. As she gets her last words in, he exhales, and meets Astryd's gaze evenly

"Just because I've got no interest in continuing our marriage does not, and never did mean that I wasn't interested in the girls. You know that. Or you should." He catches sight of Ivy and lets out an irritated noise, before speaking again "Listen, if you're not going to let me talk to Hope about this can we go yell and scream away from her?" He motions to Ivy

Astryd walks off with Ivy leaving Isabella to follow a few seconds later.

"Dad..."

Hope starts to speak then stops as she shakes her head. She would wait to hear what her adopted father had to say.

Matt watches Astryd leave. His stomach churns as his eyes fall on Ivy. So many years...lost to the ether. The familiar voice brings him back from the edge of nostalgia though and his eyes settle on Hope. The years, again bit at his mind a moment. An orphan twice abandoned. He lets out a sigh and rubs the back of his head

"You can't do this, kid" He says simply

"You can't get involved in this life. It ain't nothin glamorous. It's shit. People don't do nothin but try and take you for a fool. You never get enough cash to make up for the pain, and the nightmares.." He trails off, but before she can speak he raises a hand and starts again "I know. I know I didn't do none of it right. But, if you never listen to me again and write me off forever, listen to this. You don't want this."

"I have been part of the IYW since it was founded in 2009. Before you get all mad about it, let me tell you why I am part of it."

Hope falls silent for a moment before she continues speaking in a far away voice.

"After you left I was hurting so much Dad. My grades start to suffer and I started to isolate myself from everyone. I needed something to get me out of the funk. When Ivy was born and you were there I realized what you had done. About that time Grandpa with the help of Mr. Jefferson started a program for emotionally troubled you to start wrestling."

A far away look crosses her face.

"That is where I met Izzy, who is the whole reason IYW even exists."

Oh cool, a drug reference. Knox was on fire

"This only leads to wanting more, more, more. It gets in your blood. And then so do a lot of other things.." He trailed off a moment before recapturing his train of thought "I know, me leaving. Nothing will ever fix that. But i'm telling you. You need to stop this, right now. Before it goes any further. You're damn near aged out of 'Youth' anyway. Christ"

He took a moment of pause. The irony, of this lecture being given while he was in ring gear was not lost upon him "Izzy, Sah'ta, Sujir, Lexapro. I get that they've been around while I haven't. But those people...they're indoctrinated, Hope. They're addicts, like me and everyone else lacing up these boots. They should never, ever have gotten you or Ivy in on this. Or any of these kids"

He runs a hand frustratedly over his mouth before motioning out into the beyond again, as if presenting his example "Hell, how many of these shows, of the highlight clips, of the toys or video games all say it? Don't try this at home. I mean..fuck!"

Hope shakes her head slightly then sighs.

"Dad I get where you are coming from but I am not doing this at home. Most of the practices take place at the old PWE arena and big events rotate between host cities 4 times a year. Some kids have soccer, swimming or track. I am on the school's wrestling team. Hell most of us in IYW are or some other sports team."

There is a pause as she contemplates something.

"I have 4 matches this weekend that I hope you will watch see that I am not taking unneeded risks. I think this is dangerous Dad but that doesn't stop anyone of adults in this network of family and friends from training or competing."

With a smirk she licks her lips.

"Before you ask I have a 3.8 GPA in school. The IYW requires a minimum of a B average to practice or compete. Besides do you know how young they start training in Japan?"

Hope cocks her head as she looks Matt over slowly while waiting for a response.

He leans down though to meet her gaze, and despite himself a smile plays on his face "I'll come out there, and i'll watch." He raised a finger, cutting her off "But, that doesn't mean I'm okay with it. And if anything looks even remotely off, i'll pull the plug come hell or high water. And I still don't want Ivy involved" He pauses, and straightens up "and this doesn't change a thing between me and Thor...if you can deal with all that. Fine, i'll be there" 'Oh, so now you're laying out terms to the kid you abandoned? Real fuckin sweet' he heard his mind reprimand him

"Thanks Dad. Don't let what you became or your issues with Izzy's adopted father affect my having become a happy well trained young woman. Maybe you will even take the time to see what IYW is about in the meantime. Now I will let you get back to preparing for your match tonight. After all, I will be watching."
