Pool and Plans OFFSCREEN UNTIL SPECIFIED
Imperial Enterprise Property Baltimore, USA July 4th, 2020 Early Evening
It had been almost two full weeks since Underground: Redemption, which hadn't been Insidios's night. After what had admittedly been a hard fought matchup the night had ended in defeat. In the time since Aaron and Lu Chen had watched the match back on tape dozens of times trying to figure out where things had gone wrong for them. In the end, it seemed to have come down to a simple matter of timing and ring awareness. Either way, it didn't matter as they had a chance to bounce back and get another win. Top matters off Mel in her role as Poppy hadn't won her debut match. Not that her performance had been anything to scoff at, it had just been a highly competitive match. Yet, as the next Chaos show came closer they could be found in a game room playing pool.
"Your shot Mel."
Aaron says as he steps back from the pool table after he had just racked the balls.
"They call the first shot the break, right? Analog bar games have never been my thing… so correct me if I misunderstood. I take a shot, then if I sink one, that decides whether I target solid color or striped, right?"
Lu Chen who had just come back into the room carrying a box of pizza and some sodas laughing in amusement.
"That is correct. Since we are playing basic eight ball you hit the white ball into the triangle of balls and see what you sink. Just don't drop the black one with the 8 on it until the end or you lose."
As Mel sets up her shot Aaron goes to Help Lu Chen with the pizza and sodas before returning to the table to see how the break would set things up.
"Alright, simple enough game."
Mel muttered in response, her eyes darting around the game table, before she made her choice and angles her pool cue. A crack of sound and balls spinning, before Mel looked up to Lu Chen.
"So that's my shot… your move now. I think"
Mel gestured a hand to the scattered balls on the deep green felt topped table.
"Your go Aaron. So, how long do you think it'll take us to play a whole game? I'm not in any hurry, more curious how heated these games get…"
Aaron looks at the table thoughtfully as he lines up his stick. As he does he replies to the questions. .
"Longest game I have seen was around a half hour. As for how heated well depends on the setting. Many bar brawls have been started because of a bad game of pool. Though this is just a bit of fun to pass the time that isn't another B movie on Netflix."
With that Aaron hits the cue sending into the nearby 4 ball. The ball careens around the table knocking into several striped balls before finally coming to a stop just shy of sinking into a corner pocket.
"How old is this game again, cause it feels as old as patty cake or something… damn."
Mel asked either companion, her minute swear escaping in a loud whisper. The cause being the cue ball sharply striking into the Eleven ball, missing the well set Four entirely.
"This variation of the game is around 120 year old. Though there are variants that have been around since 1770."
Aaron surveys the pool table and then takes a shot at the now perched eleven ball. He taps it in but the cue ball sinks as well forcing his turn to end.
"Looks like I am stripes but since the cue ball sank you get to line it up anywhere on the table before you shoot.
Mel smiled broadly and giggled to herself. Reaching into the pocket removing the cue ball to reset it across the table before she then angles her strike to sink the Red 7, after knocking the cue ball and missing yet again. Eliciting a string of jumbled profanity from her.
"So am I the only one to notice how the new bosses have more trouble keeping our in and out of ring identities straight then we do? If I'm the only one noticing it's cool... I just find it kinda funny."
Mel asked clearly, inspecting her nails as she stepped away from the table again. Chuckling to herself as she walked.
"I was going to save that until we were talking in front of the camera but yeah we've noticed it as well. Just look at the commentary from our tag match Mel..
Aaron leans forward to take his next shot looking to sink the 9 ball as he takes a deep breath.
"Before we get the camera out we need to discuss the plan to make them take Insidious seriously."
As he says this he sends the cue into the desired ball but it is deflected into a group of solids. Glancing down at the table before then Mel smiled and took aim knocking the grouping of solids sinking a red seven.
"YES! Oh… getting the big wigs to take us seriously. Hmm, that is a big problem isn't it. Consolidating our win loss record maybe? Or do those statistics not matter with the company? An so I take another shot now?"
Aaron nods in agreement as he moves over to grab a soda.
"Let's be completely honest here, the Old Man has way too much on his mind to effectively organize things. After all, he has been focused on that upcoming WrestleStock event so he won't be in until tomorrow. Not that I begrudge him the distraction but in all seriousness we are the ones who are going to have to redirect what Insidious is. Any thoughts?"
Mel shifted around the table having decided to simply use her second strike to send striped balls away from the carrots pockets on the table. After making her shot and succeeding in scattering the balls thoroughly she replied partially before being interrupted.
"I liked the idea of the classic embodiments of sin, not just that cardinal list, but the technical ones too. Kinda in tone with Thor's original plan, unless…"
"I don't know what you guys are talking about but I do want in… Something about Insidious's redirection? I think I heard mentioned… Well what does insidious even mean? Not too good with definitions…"
Came the wedding and high energy interruption from a nearby alcove stairway. The culprit was none other than Jake. As he entered from the alcove and smiled to the others before quietly apologizing to Mel for cutting her off.
"To act in a gradual or subtle way, usually harmful, also can mean treacherous or crafty. That's what it means Jake. As I was saying though. Unless one of us has an idea or driven direction for us to take. We might as well stick to classic belt collection tactics and see about making our stable the definitive title holders."
"I know that is the eventual goal Mel but to get there we are going to have to send some messages. We need to start taking people out backstage or after matches until we aren't taken as jokes anymore. Which honestly I feel that is exactly how the management sees us. The commentary team sure as hell laughs it up when any one of us are in the ring, including the Old Man."
Aaron sets his cue down on the pool table, the game now an afterthought as he moves to take a seat on one of the couches that were in one corner of the room. Jake, seeing the change in direction smiled and emphatically moved to follow Aaron. Quippinging as he did.
"I hear you there man. Ugh, buuut, and please do stop me if I'm wing but. Isn't a bit cold of an opening to be expected given the direction the major leagues of wrestling have become? Superstars can be canned just as quickly as they're signed on. You know… particularly I've always wondered how 'The Old Man' manages to survive such ridiculous stunts and only now is his body giving up on him… it's a skull scratcher…. That's for sure."
Jake waited for Aaron to sit before throwing a small packet at his lap and smiled taking a seat nearby in a large deep brown leather armchair, to which he simply sank into it. Lu Chen comes over to the couch with the pizza box in hand. Sitting down next to Aaron she takes a slice before passing the box off. Aaron takes the box as he starts to speak.
"I quit worrying about that years ago. I mean he came back better than ever after what Lu Chen and I did to him. Though I think a lot it is because of the time he spent in that Soviet mining camp back in the 80's. That or because he didn't really start wrestling until he was 40. Not going to lie but it reminds me of some kind of Van Helsing or comic book shit. Either way, we all know what is going to happen soon enough with him. Which is why I was saying it is up to us to fix Insidious within Carnage. Sure he will be doing his thing but in the end I think his focus is on trying to cement his immortality in the history books of the industry."
Mel waved a hand in Jake's direction and smiled listening to Aaron, gasping at the mention of Thor's time in a work camp. As the box passed to her Mel deftly removed two pieces and passed it on again to Jake who simply set the box on a nearby end table.
"My honest thoughts on Insidious, would have us resembling our own opponents this week. The so-called "family"... If I've been hearing correctly they're like a cult under the title of a family. Honestly...I'm not sure how to explain it. A show of a group of people with vague if not numerous connections beyond the old man and his friendship with Mel's father calling itself a family, a dismantling of the typical standard for what defines family or friends."
"Sounds good but either way I say we deliver a post match beat down on them regardless of if we win or not. Start with them and see how it plays out from there. Though another viable option is to just pick someone on the roster and ambush them."
Kyuubi comments with a sly grin before falling silent. She had always been ruthless when it came to handling issues. Melfina smiled at Kyuubi, clapping her hands together with excited jumps, as Mel explained with excitement.
"What's the matter with doing both, maybe?"
Jake snickers and smiles, pulling out his cell phone to record the pair's discussion. Aaron sees this and taps Kyuubi on the shoulder so she would look over. Once she does, Kyuubi flashes a predatory smile towards Jake's phone.
"It is that time again. The time when something has to be said about an upcoming wrestling match. Typically, this is where the insults and degradation begins. Or, that is how it usually works in the industry. Yet, just what target needs to be addressed? As Aaron, Poppy and I were discussing it is some group known as The Family. Well three of the four members of it anyway. Luke, Brandon and Abigail. Or as they call themselves, "Father", "The Wolf" and "The Siren."
Kyuubi stops speaking as she looks between Aaron and Poppy for a moment with a bit of slight confusion.
"Well, do we actually know anything about them or is this their collective debut as it basically amounts to being for us as well?"
Poppy asked simply as her attention darted between two of her three companions.
"Everything there is to know about these three is on their contracts. This match will be their debut in Carnage which as you know Poppy means we have no idea what we are facing. We can make guesses but as the contracts list The Family as being some sort of religious cult who is here to forcibly spread their message. I guess the management wants to see if Insidious is a cult like many on the roster have implied over the last few months."
Aaron sighs as he shakes his head while trying to come up with something to say about the upcoming match. Something that wasn't just reading off his opponents' contracts.
"Though it is worth noting that we have the main event slot for Chaos 94. So maybe we aren't as tarnished in the eyes of the management as we thought. However, until the commentary team uses my ring name as it is written in my contract I won't hold my breath. It is Kyuubi when I hit the ring or have anything to do with the business. Though I am sure this will fall on deaf hears. What do you think Poppy? Will any of us be properly referred to?"
"We were among the more recent additions to the roster so at least to a point I can understand a mix up, but after four matches, I'm beginning to wonder about that uh, teleprompter technician's lucidity… Do they know the difference? I go by Mel off the clock, and Poppy when it is a matter of fed business. Not too difficult, a bit on the taxing side I'll admit that. But still not difficult."
Aaron just chuckles slightly as he chimes in his own name related issues.
"As for me it is either Aaron, AFH, or Aaron Frederich Hudson. Only time I went by anything else was when I was in the Army and it was always Private Hudson. Now admittedly not having my middle name said isn't a huge thing but I have used my full name as my ring name for years. I have developed a persona around it and in time you will see just what comes with it. However, the thing is that names are important. By bungling them it is sure that little to no professional respect exists by the people saying them. I would like to think that we haven't been here long enough to earn the blatant disrespect that the commentary team seems to exude towards Insidious."
With a loud sigh Aaron falls silent letting either of his teammates speak up. Jake snipped at the drop in conversation, his voice quite heavy with sarcasm as he spoke.
"So umm, all seriousness, where is Thor right now? Do any of us know?"
"He is in Vegas with the Imperial Youth Wrestling crew that Isabella was able to gather for that WrestlerStock event UGWC is hosting next weekend. Last I had heard they are all flying up tomorrow for Chaos before flying down to Arizona on Tuesday."
"That was a yes, and that's good to know, about how long does it take to clean up this house after your typical "College Rager" do you know that?"
As Jake asked his question here would toss several more small plastic packets around to those around him and laugh. Aaron just stares at the camera for a moment before letting out another sigh.
"Honestly, I don't know but luckily enough that isn't my job around here. Bringing us back to the topic at hand though, Poppy, Kyuubi and myself have the privilege of breaking in a trio of newcomers to the company. Will they be worth the self exposed hype or will they prove to be the better team? Given as I know next to nothing about The Family; I would say I would have a better chance finding out if spiders fart in the wind than answering that question."
"I don't think Jake was expecting an actual answer to that… despite saying he was serious… The poor dear."
Poppy chided sarcastically.
"Do any of you have anything else you want to say to the folks in Carnage land before we have mercy on Jake's phone battery?"
"I like the giving my phone a break, I like that idea allot…."
"Sounds like a plan then. We let our actions in the ring at Chaos do any further talking that needs to be done."
Aaron nods to Jake to have him end the recording.
"as they say in showbiz, Debadebada-eba… that's all folks, hahahahaha."
With that said Jake fumbled the phone camera towards himself giving it a steady and clear peace sign gesture and ending the recording.
"Before we get sidetracked can you uplink that to the Carnage Wrestling website?"
With a simple series of thumb strokes the video was sent to Aaron as Jake simply muttered.
"I'm worse than my folks with uploads and file share stuff, I just sent you it cause… oh see, now I see…. Sorry Aaron… "
Midway through his ramble Jake quickly noticed the simple command to send to more than one recipient, an quickly did as Aaron had requested. Aaron takes out his phone and uploads the just recorded video to Carnage before turning his attention to the plastic bag that had been thrown into his lap.
Full House
Imperial Enterprise Property Baltimore, USA July 5th, 2020 Mid Afternoon
For the members of Insidious the night prior was a blurred memory from shortly after they had had their impromptu planning session. Yet, now everyone was awake and sober awaiting what could only be described as the arrival of an army
"This is going to be an interesting couple of days."
Those words from Kyuubi were an understatement as soon enough the large estate house would be full and hosting another twenty people. Not that there wasn't the room for everyone to be comfortable.
"You are right about that but we will get through it. Besides this is bound to be loads of fun."
As the pair were talking they can hear several car doors slamming shut announcing the arrival of the group they were waiting on. In the ten minutes that follow the house fills up with fourteen kids ages 8 to 17 and 5 unknown as of yet adults. After the initial excitement on of the younger girls comes up to Aaron and Lu Chen giving each a hug while asking.
"Do you know where Auntie Mel is?"
Aaron and Lu Chen share a look before answering.
"I think she is taking a nap Kayla. That or she is down in the game room."
"Aww that is okay then I guess I will just find her later. Did you know that Daddy is letting a bunch of us wrestling at some bit wrestling event this weekend? "I did know that but do you know that your matchups will be yet?
Lu Chen asks with a smile as she takes Kayla's hand and leads her off towards one of the sitting room's couches.
"Izzy set it all up but I think the first night I will be teaming up with Soreno to take on Issac and Gael in a tag team match."
Aaron chuckles to himself as he watches his wife take the time to actively listen to her youngest sister. As he stands there listening to the conversation Nathaniel comes up next to him.
"Cute little thing isn't she?
The question was asked with just enough ambiguity that Aaron couldn't tell if Nathaniel was referring to Kayla or Lu Chen.
"They both are Old Man."
"Indeed they are thought that is probably more to do with their mothers than anything in my genes."
Nathaniel cucks slightly as his comment before turning slightly serious.
"Are you guys ready for the main event of Chaos 94?"
Aaron sighs at the question as he runs a hand through his hair.
"Honestly there was much to go on to prepare for the match but we are ready. At least that is the feeling I got after last night. Maybe after things settle down here we can put together a sparring session down in the training room. After all you did bring five former wrestlers to help keep the kiddos in line. I am sure Sujir and Astryd wouldn't mind a sparring match. Either James or Darrin can fill in the last spot. Or we could have Velvet take Astryd's spot. It will be fun either way and be a good workout. "
Nathaniel nods slightly with a grin. He would just play the role of spectator along with the older kids as he would have plenty of chances to spar once he got down to UGWC in a couple of days.
"That sounds like a plan. I do want to thank you for understanding that my focus this last couple of weeks has been on preparing for WrestleStock. It will be worth it in the end and once it is wrapped up I hope to have some good things come out of it."
"Man you don't have to worry, I get that this whole WrestleStock Cup tournament means a lot to you. Have fun with it and I am sure you will find something over the weekend to keep you busy. Additionally, it couldn't hurt things at all if you managed to make a few business connections or even just make a new friend or two. I will admit what you told me of your plans to sponsor a District in that temporary city sounds ambitious. Using the IYW for exhibition matches could be a stroke of genius though. You really made Isabella's day with that decision."
Nathaniel chuckles at that comment.
"That is part of why I did it Aaron. The rest of it is these kids haven't had a chance to compete since we did the IYW winter event. The pandemic forced the Spring and Summer 2020 events to be cancelled. Nothing we can do about that now but I figured WrestleStock was a good way to let at least some of the IYW compete."
Aaron nods as the pair move off towards the game room leaving Kayla deep in conversation with Lu Chen.
