"Ah hae tae face who?" Harry asked Terra who then showed him the match card on her phone.
Trent Fucking Steel?!
Harry stood there his jaw practically to the floor. Just his luck honestly. Right when he began to pick up momentum here was the biggest test of his career since his return in the form of Trent.
Harry respected Steel as a competitor, Steel never came off as a man who didn't know who he was or what he was about. On top of that he was probably the most violent guy on the roster. Harry would have to pull out all of his tricks and abilities against a man like this.
"Love prepare an ice bath for me th' day o' this match... Fur a'm aff tae need it." Harry rubbed his temples a bit as he gave Terra a look of concern.
What is fear?
September 27th, 1997 Edinburgh, Scotland
A ten year old Harry Hampton stood in front of a lake, a rope dangling in front of him tied to a tree as he looked up nervously at his father George.
"Ah dunno dad... A've ne'er done this afore. It looks scary..." Harry said reluctant as he grabbed the rope before quickly letting it go.
"Listen son. Ye awready know howfur tae swim. A' ye gotta dae is swing oan this 'ere rope into th' water! th' rope is secured oan th' tree. Stoap bein' so afraid a' th' time laddie." George said with annoyance in his tone.
"George leave the boy alone. If he's scared he's scared. Let him be." Harry's mother Jessica said trying to reason with her husband after seeing the terror in her little boy's eyes.
"Jessica, ye hae tae halt bein' so protective o' him. He's git tae be a man." George looked over at his wife before kneeling down looking into his son's eyes.
"Listen son there will be many times where ur faced wi' fear. Often we will believe there is no wey tae git by it or overcome it. It's in those moments whaur we rise tae th' occasion. 'n' dae ye know how come?"
"Because... we're Hamptons?"
"Because we're Hamptons."
Harry sniffled a bit and rubbed his nose clean. As he gave a nod.
"Ye'r great grandfather fought in many battles in th' airmie Harry. He would tell me o' all o' th' dangers he faced 'n' how badly he wanted tae gie into th' fear... Bit ye know what... He knew that wis th' easy route. Fear is so easy tae give into. Tis whin ye stare it right in th' face that ye truly have become a man."
Harry heard his father's words and gave a nod before staring at the rope and taking a few steps back as he then ran full speed jumping and grabbing onto the rope as his momentum swung him forward as Harry smiled at finally overcoming his fear! His father watched on with pride and then terror as the rope snapped.
"....Fuck"
Harry tumbled into the water and immediately began to doggy paddle back to his parents in a panic. George pulled his son up and ruffled his wet hair before chuckling a bit.
"Another lesson boy! Shit happens!"
Facing fear
Edinburgh, Scotland September 24th, 2020
Harry Hampton is shown with the Chaos Title slung over his shoulder as he looks up at the night sky. A camera and light showing the Champion in front of a Lake. He crouches down looking into the water now before addressing the camera crew.
"Trent steel... Ye know mah story... Ye know whaur a'm comin' from... Ye know whit a'm needin' tae do. Ah have heard th' story that haes bin talked aboot for aboot two months... Ah will instead tell ye th' story that is to develop 'ere 'n' now.
Ye'r a man held to a high regard for yer violent nature... Ye'r a man who at th' very least cuid give a damn aboot what others think. Bit yer in fact a man who doesn't sugar coat anythin'. So ah will do ye th' same courtesy...
Ye frighten me. Ah know what ye micht be thinking. Who admits to fearing anither man? Weel... Ye see I'm not one who let's their fear dictate their actions. Nah, not mah style. Instead a'm aff to face it head on. Channel that fear 'n' push forward. Mah father taught me to confront fear... 'n' mak' it mah bitch.
Losing this title to ye... That wid crush me...but tis lik' ah said afore. If a'm to lose this title it will be to someone who truly deserves it. Trent... Ah promised to give mah all in a match. Ah promised to never quit. So Trent... As much as ah fear whit ye'r capable o'... It will honestly take that 'n' more to strip me o' this title.
